F1: Malaysia FP2 - Hamilton rises to the top

It was Lewis Hamilton’s turn to top the timesheets at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia this afternoon, the reigning world champion finishing the second ninety minute free practice session two tenths faster than his teammate, Nico Rosberg.

“Very hot conditions here today. We've been doing our normal race preparation,” explained Mercedes man Paddy Lowe. “The strategy is completely open for Sunday between the soft, medium and hard tyres, so we evaluated all three compounds across both cars on high fuel and low fuel. Both drivers were reasonably happy with the balance of the car. “

“No issues save a bit of gravel clearing on Nico's car after his minor excursion this morning. A lot of data to analyse tonight to see where we are competitively and decide what's the best way to run the race. Now we look forward to qualifying tomorrow.”

The two Mercedes drivers finished well ahead of the two Ferrari racers, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, who finished third and fourth quickest respectively.

The second session wasn’t as entertaining as the first with Kevin Magnusson’s Renault repaired and running on track, even of it was only fast enough to secure the 19th fastest time overall, 2.7 seconds off the pace.
