The Supercars Championship season ending Sydney 500 has now been officially replaced by a new venue in Newcastle.
Confirmation came earlier today from New South Wales Premier Mike Baird that the new venue around the streets of the East End, has secured a five year deal to host the normally hotly contested season finale.
The new event will begin next November, however we will need to wait until the 2017 calendar is released before knowing the exact date.
“The Hunter (Valley) has thousands of Supercars fans who now have an event to call their own,” Baird said. “The Coates Hire Newcastle 500 will be the first Supercars race ever held in Newcastle and is another major event secured for Regional NSW. "
"It’s a picturesque course that takes in some of the city’s best landmarks, including Nobby’s Beach and Fort Scratchley. The race is expected to inject more than $57 million to the Hunter region over the next five years, and attract 81,000 visitors from around NSW.”
